Sally & Peter Dell make 3rd trip with trailer full of donations to Alice Springs

Monday 19 August 2024, EndTrachoma District Champion Sally Dell (9800 & 9815) and husband Peter departed Woodend on their third trip to Alice Springs with a trailer loaded with donations for communities in the NT.

Planning for this trip started in May. This included Sally washing and ironing all the clothes, colour coding the boxes for the relevant intended donations, renting storage space and trips to various locations collecting donations.

The trip took them from Woodend and staying overnight in Renmark, Pimba, Erldunda before arriving in Alice Springs on Thursday 29th August.

On the way, they stopped in Port Augusta and met up with District 9510 Champion Kerre Willsher who handed over 22 Toiletry Kits made by the Girl Guides in Whyalla. They met at the Arid Zone Botanical Gardens and had lunch. Kerre drove 50 minutes from Whyalla to enable the meet up.

Donations were received from: Rotary Woodend, Rotary Bayside Geelong, Buffalo Sports, Xavier College Kew, Olivia's Place Warragul, Fairview, FootScape, DIK, Rotary Gisborne, Whyalla Girl Guides, Woodend Knitting Group, Woodend Primary School, Rotary Warragul, Uniting Church Op Shop in Woodend,

And they were strategically distributed to....... Julie Wright for distribution to selected communities in need, WOSSCA. WALTJA, Vinnies, Ampilatwatja Community, Alpurrurulum, CAWLS, Alice Springs Hospital - Maternity Ward and Pediatrics Ward, Purple House in Cooper Pedy, and the Bonya Community.

There is s much more to be shared of this story so stay tuned.

EndTrachoma installs Community Laundry in Ampilatwatja

In August 2024, PDG Ian Dyball travelled to Ampilatwatja in the NT for the final set up of the Community Laundry donated by EndTrachoma.

This project was an extension from the Family-size Toiletry Kits that were supplied by Rotary Frankston North, Rotary Moruya and Rotary Rochester that commenced back in December 2022. Rachael Byles, Family Educator as she was back then for the Families as First Teachers Centre Ampilatwatja, blew me away with the genuine appreciation for the kits, and the lengths she personally went to, to hand out the kits to each individual family, educating each member of the family. It was back in November 2023 that Sandi first discussed with Rachael the support with the provision of laundry facilities.  And we are still to make laundry bags for each family in the community. A project that is in its

From November 2023, PDG Ian Dyball and Rotary Taree got involved with the Ampilatwatja Community. Ian has been instrumental in the logistics of the sourcing, supply, delivery and installation. And it was wonderful that Ian made the trip, personally funded, to be in Ampilatwatja for the set up, and to meet with Rachael and the community. He also visited Alpurrurulum providing Baby Kits under interesting circumstances. A story for another article.

Thank you to the following donors who made the Ampilatwatja Community Laundry possible:
